Monday Mindset: W.I.N.: What’s Important Now

Monday Mindset: W.I.N.: What’s Important Now

Brandon Guyer is a mental performance coach and former Major League Baseball player. The Guardian Baseball Mindset Collection brings many of his game-changing Mindsets to apparel.

During the Monday Mindset, Guardian Baseball and Brandon Guyer will be presenting a different Mindset every week to help you unlock your greatest potential. To succeed physically, you need to win mentally, too.

Today’s Mindset: W.I.N.: What’s Important Now

What it means:

This is a question you should always be asking yourself. When you’re competing, the only time that matters is right now. If you’re not in a good place mentally, ask yourself what’s important now, then go do what needs to be done so that you’re ready to compete at your highest level.

Who it’s for:

What’s Important Now is for the athlete battling distractions. We all know it’s not sustainable to always be locked in. Sometimes distractions crop up, whether it’s stress from a relationship or an upcoming test, a wandering mind, or even the desire to be doing something else than training.

With W.I.N., athletes are challenged to block out those distractions and focus on the task at hand, be it training, a game, or even a big test.

What it looks like:

W.I.N. is for the day you’re at the gym and you’re trying to train but your phone keeps vibrating. You want to check it – to find out what your friends are doing or see your latest text – but that’s not what matters most. That’s now What’s Important Now.

W.I.N. is silencing your phone while you train. It’s blocking out the argument you had with your significant other, the thoughts pulling you away from the present, or your plans for the evening.

Win is knowing What’s Important Now as you play and as you compete, and occasionally recognizing that you are not in the mindset to compete. When that happens, you must take care of the distraction so you’ll perform at your highest level.

Is it time to W.I.N.?
